If you love cricket — or simply want to experience the atmosphere surrounding one of the Caribbean’s biggest sporting events — this is a great weekend to be in Barbados.
Barbados is hosting CPL activity during September, with the official tourism calendar highlighting the tournament from September 5–20, 2026.
Saturday: Barbados Tridents vs Jamaica Kingsmen

The Barbados Tridents take on the Jamaica Kingsmen in what promises to be one of Saturday night’s big sporting attractions. The Barbados Events Calendar describes it as an exciting rivalry match, while current tournament schedules place the game at Kensington Oval.
Even if you’re not a serious cricket fan, a night at Kensington Oval during CPL can be as much about the music, atmosphere and Caribbean energy as the cricket itself.

🌊 Saturday Adventure: Coastal Sundown Walk
Want to swap the stands for the outdoors?
The Coastal Sundown Walk takes place Saturday afternoon and provides a much more active way to experience Barbados.

The walk is organised by the Coastal Zone Management Unit and heads uphill from Bathsheba toward St. John Parish Church via Hackleton Cliff. It is rated Hard, so this isn’t a casual beach stroll.
You can expect beautiful east-coast scenery, hills and a very different perspective of Barbados from the more familiar resort areas.
Good to know
Wear comfortable footwear, bring water and be prepared for a challenging route.
For visitors who want to experience more than beaches and restaurants, activities like this are exactly the kind of “Discover Barbados differently” experience worth adding to a trip.
🥾 Sunday Morning: Hike Barbados in Oistins
One of our favourite recurring ways to discover Barbados continues this Sunday.

📍 Oistins Bay Garden, Christ Church
Morning hiking groups begin at 6:00 AM, while the afternoon medium-paced hike starts at 3:30 PM. Participation is free, although donations are welcomed.
Morning groups normally include:
- Stop ‘n’ Stare – easier pace, around 6 miles
- Medium – around 8 miles
- Brisk Medium – around 10 miles
- Grin ‘n’ Bear – challenging, around 12 miles
The Barbados Hiking Association’s September calendar confirms Oistins as the September 13 destination.
This is an excellent option for visitors who want to discover Barbados beyond the usual tourist routes.
CESN Tip: Do the morning hike and reward yourself afterward with breakfast or brunch somewhere along the South Coast.
🍴 Make This a Bajan Food Weekend
You don’t need a ticketed event to create a memorable Barbados weekend.
Pick an area of the island and make food part of the experience.
Try something local
Look for Bajan favourites such as:
Fish cakes • cutters • macaroni pie • flying fish • grilled fish • pudding and souse • conkies when available • rum punch
Rather than eating every meal at your hotel, try at least one independent restaurant, café, food stall or rum shop this weekend.
That’s where some of the most memorable Barbados experiences happen.
Saturday evening idea
If you’re heading to the CPL match at Kensington Oval, make Bridgetown and the surrounding area part of the outing rather than simply driving directly to the stadium.
Grab something to eat, explore a little, then head to the cricket.

One example is Dinero Link: The Garden Party, scheduled for Saturday at The Amber Room in Drax Hall, St. George, with several local performers listed.
