Remembrance Day 2017 commemorations around the globe

Remembrance Day, also known as Veteran’s Day,  Armistice Day or Poppy Day, is a time when nations around the world remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty.

It is typically observed on November 11 and people stop work to observe a moment of silence at 11am on November 11, which is the time and date in 1918 when hostilities formally ended after more than four years of battle during World War I. Alternatively it is observed as “Remembrance Sunday” on the Sunday closest to November 11th.
